EXHIBITION & PROGRAM

THE DEMANDMENTS PROGRAM

by Lee Tracy

With a special exhibition of 10 Demandments

@ The Chicago Forum on Global Cities

June 6-8, 2018

What are the critical issues facing our world today?  Can prejudices ever be fully eradicated? What price does the global community pay for unlimited and unregulated growth? Is it time to create a new set of guidelines to create lasting political and social change?

The Demandments, a series of original works on paper created by Chicago artist Lee Tracy, explores these questions through the power and persuasion of art.

The Demandments identifies universal values and plants an image of an ideal working world in the imagination, where solutions are attainable. The series motivates movement by strengthening the courage needed to challenge the powers stalling obvious solutions, while igniting interest in better understanding and researching the issues at hand.

As a collection of images and introspection, The Demandments remind us that many of the global problems can be met by responses that exist in each of us. In our increasingly partisan world, this artwork reminds us of the many things we can all agree upon.

Ten Demandments are presented at the  Chicago Forum on Global Cities, a three-day international conference hosted in partnership with the Financial Times, that brings together leaders in business, civics, education, and the arts for a cross-sector dialogue on the influential role cities play in solving critical global challenges.

October 24 to November 24, 2018

The Downtown Boxing Gym (Detroit) in association with White Color Productions (Chicago) is proud to welcome French photographer Nicolas Henry to Detroit.

Henry is known for his unique approach to storytelling that combines community engagement with photography, theater, cinematic lighting and handmade prop and set design. His current project, Kitihawa’s Chandelier / Worlds in the Making, is a series of photographs and exhibitions that present tales from communities in over 13 countries and celebrate the diversity of our world's cultures.

The purpose of our collaboration is to include Detroit in Henry’s international project, and to provide the Downtown Boxing Gym’s students, families and partners an opportunity to get a hands-on experience in the making-of a large-scale photography series. The program provides a platform for expression that is truly remarkable and attests to the power art has in helping us create a more just and equitable society.
